HISTORY OF HEALING SOURCE IN BAD KLEINKIRCHHEIM

Glaciers formed during the ice age in the valley of Bad Kleinkirchheim. In the Dolomitengestein of the Nock Mountains the rainwater is sifted through the rocks and therefore cleaned of contaminants. Deep inside the mountains the water gets heated up while taking minerals from its surroundings and appears as thermal water on the surface again.

The first source with this special power can be found under the church Saint Katharina built in the 17th century. The spring water passed along in wooden tubes into the so called "bathing house". The water was heated and filled into bath tubs. In 1762 there was already a “bathing rule“ made and published.

In 1934 the first Kirchheimer thermal bath outside was opened and 1 year later, the community got the right to give this town the Name “Bad”.  By 1950 Bad Kleinkirchheim developed into a popular health resort. During a bore water with 36 - 40 ° C thermal water was discovered. In 1969, the first indoor thermal pool was opened. Today the St. Kathrein and the Thermal Römerbad are existing.
